Pearls of Wisdom from Shijoshisha

  1. The word “Lie” Right in the middle of “Believe”
  2. Never be afraid to try. Remember it was amateurs who built the ark and professionals who built the titanic.
  3. Dream as if you’ll live forever and live as if you’ll die today.
  4. Let there be a smile on your face and firmness in your handshake.
  5. If the path is beautiful first confirm where the destination leads to, if the destination is beautiful don’t bother how the path is.
  6. An Eraser isn’t for those who make mistakes; it’s for the ones who are willing to correct their mistakes.
  7. Success isn’t defined by obtaining everything you want but by enjoying everything you have.
  8. Do not count what you have lost; because the past never comes back, but sometimes the future can give us back something that we thought was lost.
  9. Never ever “Shutdown Abort” an oracle database.
  10. The sambar should always be poured over the medu wada.

I’d like to end this piece with some shaayari. So here goes.

Zindagi mein bahut se gum milenge,
Sach mano acche dost kum milenge;
Jis mode pe chhod denge sab saath aapka,
Usi mode pe aapko Pani Puri/Medu wada khaate hue hum milenge.

That’s all for now folks. Will be back later with some more thoughts.

The Medu Wada aka Spicy American Doughnut (With sambar poured over the Wada)

The topic of this post is something I’ve loved since childhood. Yup you guessed it right, it a medu wada, with the sambar of course. Without sambar the medu wada is like bread without butter. I am a firm believer of the fact that sambar should compulsorily accompany a medu wada whilst chutney can be optional. Think of sambar as the wife and the chutney as the sis-in-law.

You’ll find it in every nook and corner of Mumbai. Each suburb has plenty of udipis that serve piping hot medu wadas. There are a few differences between the tastes of their sambars though. Like around matunga/Sion the Sambar is a lot less sweet when compared to the one found in Mulund/Ghatkopar. Also around matunga the sambar/chutney are replenished for free while around Mulund you do have to pay a nominal charge.

Then there comes service. I can safely say that Vishwa Bharati, located just outside Mulund Station has the fastest service. The time between placing your order and receiving your order is negligible. It actually takes more time to get change from your pocket then for them to serve you a piping hot plate of Medu Wada.

Now to Medu Wada etiquette. I for one believe that the sambar needs to be poured over the wada and not given separately in a bowl. There are two reasons for it, the first one being that it gives the wada an opportunity to soak in the sambar thus adding to the flavour. The second reason is rather simple, yet important. The quantity of sambar you get in bowl is much lesser than what you get when it’s poured over the wada. It comes into play especially when you’re having it around Mulund. I’ve even had an argument about this with a friend in a hotel in Matunga. When the argument turned a bit rough (as in rough words no punches) the waiter, for the gentleman he was got us additional sambar for free. That is when we realized that you get additional sambar/chutney for free in matunga.

I’ll delve a little deeper into the aforementioned argument some other time. That’s all for the time being folks, Will be back soon with some more thoughts.

Fake IPL Player and Nicks

Man, I tell you guys this is one of those blogs that has the power to keep people off porn.As long as as i can remember this is the longest i've spent on the internet reading something and not searchin for anything raunchy.

The subject of the blog is interesting enough but the characters built in it are superb. Also there is a great amount of mystery surrounding the blogger as he claims to be from the KKR camp itself.

Furthermore the nicknames used are not only innovative but too damn funny (specially that of sreesanth). Some of them make good sense as well while some are just good fun. This is the reason i've dedicated my blog trying to explain the nicknames in a bit more detail so that when people read the relevant blog it'll all make sense to them.

If you want to make the most out of the nick names I suggest you first read the blog.

Batch 21

Today as I relaxed at home my heart was filled with both a bit of sadness and a bit of happiness. The reason being quite simple; one of my batch mates is all set to quit the co in a month’s time. The reason for happiness is that he has gotten into a prestigious institute for management studies, so the future is nothing but shimmering for him. The reason for sadness is that my batch (training batch) strength that used to be 21 at one point will now be reduced to a mere 13.

Slowly but surely we were parting and it wasn’t like school or college where all of your friends part on the farewell day. It was more painful to see friends part one by one. Little did I know when I started my career with these people that I’d feel so sad when one of us would have to leave the co. Trust me people the farewell in schools and colleges are a lot easier to get over. The reason maybe that you tend to spend a lot more time with people at work than you do in school or college.

I never really thought about my batch mates parting ways until our batch strength was reduced to about 16 or 17. I must admit I’ve spent some of the most memorable and best moments of my life so far with these people. I never really thought we were going to have such a lot of fun when we started. Right from the silly games we used to play during training to the more complicated ones during the nice bench period of about 3 months each and every day was a special gift, one that I shall cherish forever.

I always thought when I joined the co that I’d have a professional relationship with most of them but then as it turns out I made really good friends with them. So what do you know, Forests’ mama was right after all, life certainly is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you are going to get.

That’s all for now folks, will be back soon with some more thoughts.

Mahape Tea Party

Tea is one the most widely consumed beverages in India. It's available in many forms and flavours. It is one of those drinks that cuts across all social and economic barriers. Everyone here enjoys a cuppa chai every now and then. The reason why I speak of tea today is because Tea is a beverage one associates with conversations.

Now that I sit at home having a lot of free time up my sleeve I really miss the conversations I had with some of my colleagues. The conversations would cover politics, movies, sports, sometimes coding and of course women. You always have something to talk about and if one fine day you can’t find something there is always someone or something you want to curse. Tea conversations are a perfect opportunity to let those emotions out.

Actually letting your emotions out in such can actually lead to something good. One does connect with people who dislike similar things though you may disagree with the guy on a 100 different issues but you immediately connect with him when you come to know that you have a common enemy. It’s like hating the old lunch lady brings a group of 2nd graders together. Similarly I too got together with some of my colleagues and made quite a few friends while enjoying a cuppa chai.

That’s all for now, Will be back with some more thoughts soon.

Final Sada Dosa @Mastek

This is my first blog but the subject is a bit gloomy.
Today I've officially ended one of my longest and beloved alliances with someone only this time that someone was an organization.
It'd be fair to say that we split on even terms as i'm happy with the severance and the oraganization is happy that I've left without any resistance.
But the fact remains that it has left a hole in me, something that can only be filled by time.

As it's famously said that endings give birth to new beginnings, this ending is no exception. I wouldn't call it an end to my professional life it's more of a break that i must take to do something that i should have done after college.

But life always gives you second chances and it has given me a great second chance which I'm not going to let go at any cost.

Thats all for now, will be back shortly with some more thoughts.
